Plant Bed Care

Plant Bed Care

Plant bed care is a general term and includes a number of different services that are all targeted to install,  maintain or improve the look of your beds.  Plant beds don’t play any other role other than aesthetic, so there is almost no limit to how you can make them look.  From our side we’ll assist you with selecting a right plant for the right spot depending on amount of sun, water or quality of soil.

Installation.  Every flower bed starts with installation.  Depending on the location, the area will have to be cleared of grass, weeds, trees, rocks and anything that will not be a part of your future bed.

Planting.  After the area is cleaned up you’re ready to plant.  Most people choose strong, low-maintenance plants – good choice! Of course we’re not against any exotic flowers and bushes – we’ll be happy to plant anything that grows in New England’s climate.

Edging is necessary for a new bed installation and is recommended for existing beds at least once a year. Nicely cut clean edge make a significant difference in the look of your bed! Pared with mulching, it creates an extremely tough barrier for weeds and grass so the bed isn’t overtaken.

Mulching.  On top of the great look that mulch gives to your bed, it will also help to stop the formation of new weeds and it will keep the top soil moist longer after rain or watering.

Weeding.  No matter how much mulch you put down or how much anti-weed spray you apply, at some point weeds will start showing up and they’ll have to be pulled out – that’s where weeding comes into play. If you have a bed where weeds pretty much took over – you’ll be amazed how much better your bed looks after we’re done with it.

Maintenance.  Time to time some maintenance work will have to be done to your bed.  It could be cutting some flowers back after they bloomed, feeding flowers and bushes, even transplanting them, putting ties on small trees etc.  We can help to alter the pH of your soil to turn Hydrangeas bright blue, or we can tie your American Arborvitae so they grow straight and true.  In the winter, we can also winterize any of the more delicate plants so that they survive possible heavy snowfalls.
